Choreographer required for an Inclusive Dance Commission
Stacey MacNaught |
Nottingham's Dance4 is seeking a choreographer to create a flagship commission to be premiered at the U.Dance Festival 2014 in Nottingham. The selected choreographer will work with local practitioners and groups of young people with and without disabilities from across the East Midlands to develop an exciting performance piece.
Dance4 is looking for inspired individuals or collectives who have experience of creating extraordinary choreography with young people with and without disabilities, for an exciting, realistic dance concept. U.Dance 2014, Youth Dance England’s eighth national youth dance festival will take place in Nottingham from 26 to 29 June 2014 and promises to showcase the breadth of youth dance choreography and performance the country has to offer. The event will see the commission performed many times.
As a result of the project, Dance4 will oversee the development and ensure there’s a lasting legacy of the commission. Dance4 will support scheduling including the recruitment process to engage local artists, practitioners and participants. The unique commission will have a developed vision with the choreographer as the artistic driving force behind it’s development, working with regional practitioners to impart their vision for the work through a training day.
The choreographer will also deliver ‘experience days’ to young dancers across the region to give a taster of what the project will entail and will oversee the development of sections of the commission alongside the regional practitioners through intensive rehearsal periods which will take place during Easter and May half term school holidays.
Dance4 is currently in the process of sourcing match funding for the project, so the final choreographer fee is to be confirmed, but will be a minimum of £5000 inclusive of choreographer planning, delivery and evaluation fees and costume/production costs.
